Snowman & Apples completed 12/15/09

Thought I'd try a simple still life. Just gathering a few things around the house that might be fun to paint is all there was to it. It's 12"x9" on a slick masonite panel bought from a local art supply store.

The Old Homeplace completed 11/10/09

This painting was different for me in that it's the first of many to be painted on the surface that Richard Schmid recommends. It's a double primed Belgian linen canvas taped to a piece of masonite to be stretched later (should the painting be a success). I like how it turned out ... so, I'll be stretching it soon. It's 14" x 11" in size.

Brisk Morning completed 12/15/08

This painting is an attempt to loosen up my style a bit. I enjoy working on the slick masonite surface. It helps to show the brushstrokes better and to give a more spontaneous feel to the painting. The size is 12" x 9".

Plein air at The Wilds completed 8/18/09

I love to paint plein air! This one is just a 10"x8". We tubed down this creek just a day or so before ... what fun!

Portrait of Mr. Vance completed 8/15/09

This commission will probably prove to be one of the best opportunities for me, as a portrait artist. I'm very thankful to Richland Fine Art Gallery for considering me to paint it. I understand that Mr. Vance was a very gracious individual. The size is 30"x40".

Portrait of Kristy completed 12/24/08

Kristy is a special person! She can't walk now ... but she will one day. Her mother wanted an oil portrait of Kristy walking with the Lord on the beach so to be an encouragement for Kristy. I enjoyed painting the portrait. The size is 24"x30".

David and Kathy enjoy their two dogs. Thanks David for letting me paint this portrait. I hope you and Kathy enjoy it for many years to come. The painting measures 14"x11".

My friend Joe completed 5/5/09

Joe is a very lean man with very strong hands. He was an excellent model for this type of character. His hat added a lot also! This painting is 18x24.

Cowboy at the BRR completed 3/15/09

Thanks to a friend who works on a special ranch that ministers to kids of all ages, I was able to get the photo used as reference for this painting. I believe horses were made to be oil painted. This one is 16x20.

LBL Santa completed 2/18/09

This Santa represents a mid 1800's Santa as he gave a speech at the Land Between the Lakes Home Place. In those days, children were happy to to get an orange in their stocking come Christmas morning. I enjoyed painting this one very much! 12 x 16 inches are the dimensions.

Portrait of Billy completed 1/17/09

This portrait has special meaning to me because it's someone that I've known for a very long time. He has been a great influence in my life. Thanks Chief, for the faithful help you've been to me over the many years! This painting is only 11 x 14.

Austin and Kaden completed 11/2/08

These two brothers were fun to paint. I tried to capture the warm light at the end of the day in this portrait. Special thanks to the parents who have allowed me to paint all their children. This painting is 30"x24".

Portrait of Kelly completed 8/12/08

Her mother took this photo years ago. The words 'purity' and 'character' came to my mind when I first saw the photo. I hope those qualities are still communicated thru this painting. I enjoyed painting this piece! The size is 24"x30".

Portrait of Ashley completed 7/7/08

Working with shading and colors in the shadows can get mighty tricky. When the top half of the figure is totally in the shadows and the bottom gradually comes into the light ... it gets more tricky. Actually, it turned out rather nice. More important, the parents were pleased.

Portrait of Harrell completed 6/2/08

The relationship between these partners is very unique. It would be great for you to see these boarder collies in action as they herd the cattle as needed. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Portrait of Katrina completed 4/9/08

This little girl is as cute as a button. Her parents were very pleased with the portrait and are interested in purchasing portraits of their other children.

Portrait of Lilybelle completed 2/23/08

My first painting of someone's pet. Lilybelle isn't supposed to be in this chair as you can maybe tell by her expression.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Portrait of Angele completed 1/22

This painting is my first attempt at a full figure in oil. The two light sources proved to be tough, but one being a warm light and the other a cool was fun to try to capture on canvas.

Plein air BRR ranch house completed 8/07

I've helped take a group of kids from our church to summer camp for years, but this is the first year I've taken my paint box. This little sketch was a blast to paint. Drawing and painting from life is one of my favorite things to do, although it can be a challenge.

Starr Horse completed 11/07

A friend at work let me come out to her horse farm and take some photos. I must have taken 200 photos of horses, cows, trees, valleys and such. She has a awesome 700 acer farm. Anyway, as I was about to leave ... this horse posed beautifully for me as though to say, "if you want to paint a real horse, then check out this profile!" Well, I said "fine with me". The rest is history.

Portrait of Dr. Steve completed 8/07

I wanted to have a VIP commission in my portfolio, so I approached my friend Dr. Steve who serves as a high school principal. It's the largest oil portrait I've done thus far. He was very pleased with it.

Portrait of Bill & Will completed 11/07

I just finished this portrait of a gentleman and his grandson. Will is reaching out to something very special. I wonder what it could be. I'm very happy with the way the expressions worked out! Thanks for looking and go ahead and post feedback to let me know if you like it. Thanks!
