Peaceful Place completed 8/12/2010

Here's the second painting that was entered in the Roswell, GA paintout. The water was basically finished on the first day, so the rain didn't really effect me to bad at this location. This painting is 16"x12" and 'Inclined to Hear' is 10"x8". Both are painted on linen and the medium is oil. Both are for sale, if you are interested.
Inclined to Hear completed 8/12/2010

I entered a paintout in Roswell, GA last month. This was the first paintout for me and it lasted for three days. Each of the 75 artists could enter only two paintings and the paintings couldn't be touched up in the studio ... so, it was totally a pleinair competition. This is a painting from under the Vickery Creek walk across bridge. I arrived late and only had two days to paint ... the plan was to pick a morning spot/painting and an evening spot/painting for two days. These would be my two paintings to enter into the competition. The sunlight would be basically the same. However, it rained BIGTIME the night after the first day. The creek waters were about one and a half feet DEEPER on the morning of the second day and the water went from being very transparent to being opaque and muddy! I had to finish the painting from memory. The best part was that I won second place with this painting! Thank you, Lord ... for an experience that I'll never forget!!

The Heron at Radnor Lake completed 7/19/2010

The heron at Radnor is always on time for breakfast early in the morning about every day. Most folks who walk the trails no him. The colors on the lake this particular morning were awesome! It's a great place to visit. The last time I was there I saw two large owls in a tree about thirty feet from me ... fourteen deer on the trails ... and many friendly people along the trails as well. 30"x24" Oil on linen.

The Prodigal's Father completed 6/28/2010

1st Baptist Church in Nashville has a art contest every year. The theme is 'The Prodigal Son'. You could paint a picture from the perspective of either the son, brother, or the father. I decided to participate this year and chose the perspective of the father. This painting makes me think of the way the Heavenly Father desires for His children to come back when we go astray.
Thanks Larry for posing for me! 18"x24" Oil on linen.

Bethel Place completed 3/19/2010

This mansion is titled Bethel Place. It's really much nicer than this painting shows. It was built in 1855 and can be found just a few miles southwest of Columbia, TN. I sure wish it would have been sunny instead of overcast, rainy, and cold. This is the first painting that I painted from inside my car (at least it was started inside my car). 12"x9" Oil on linen.

Memory Lane completed 2/20/2010

We actually got some snow this year. I made it a point to get out and take photos of some of it to paint later ... this photo inspired me. I'm really liking the surface of this Belgian linen. It's texture isn't overly rough and the weave seems to be slightly irregular. Thanks Mr. Richard Schmid, for suggesting it on your website. Oil on linen at 12"x9".
Polk Garden completed 3/5/2010

Getting ready for a show at Columbia, TN. This is a view of the garden behind the James K. Polk home built in 1816. It would have been nice to show the garden as it would appear in full bloom in a month or so ... but hey ... it looked interesting enough to me just the other day. Oil on linen at 12"x9".

The Old Homeplace completed 11/10/09

This painting was different for me in that it's the first of many to be painted on the surface that Richard Schmid recommends. It's a double primed Belgian linen canvas taped to a piece of masonite to be stretched later (should the painting be a success). I like how it turned out ... so, I'll be stretching it soon. It's 14" x 11" in size.

Starr Horse completed 11/07

A friend at work let me come out to her horse farm and take some photos. I must have taken 200 photos of horses, cows, trees, valleys and such. She has a awesome 700 acer farm. Anyway, as I was about to leave ... this horse posed beautifully for me as though to say, "if you want to paint a real horse, then check out this profile!" Well, I said "fine with me". The rest is history.
